It's going to be bright lights, plenty of decoration - plus, hopefully, a little bit of the glitz and glamour of celebrity. As ever, the biggest events will being taking place in the town centre and Old Town - and here's all the details...
Christmas Lights switch-on
Customers are invited to join Swindon Designer Outlet in starting their Christmas celebrations as they switch on their lights.
When: Saturday, 17 November 2012
Where: Swindon Designer Outlet, Kemble Drive
The singing sensation - who is now in the X-Factor final - will be joined by Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio in Wharf Green as part of a huge programme of entertainment. The evening kicks off at 5pm with performances from some of Swindon’s finest dancing and musical talent including The Big Sing, Ovation Dance and Swindon Dance. The lights will officially come on at 7pm, before a dazzling firework display brings the evening to a close.

Always a popular event in the Swindon Christmas diary, and this year's Old Town Christmas light switch-on was no different!
Crowds gathered from 6pm onwards to help with count down to the big switch-on.

Once again a bumper crowd gathered in the market square to enjoy the switching-on of the Christmas lights, plus music from the Highworth Silver band, mince pies, fairground rides, carol singing and even an appearance from Santa on his sleigh!

On Friday 07 December, it’s Wootton Bassett’s magical Christmas lights switch-on.
The fun starts at 6.00pm with the arrival of Santa Claus, his Elves AND his
real reindeer!
Adding to the festivities will be a full brass band, Mystic Ruth, fairground and Christmas carols by the beautifully lit Christmas tree.
Many of the local shops will be open late and there will also be a number of gift & food stalls to help you get your Christmas shopping under way!

Festival of Light Parade
A fantastic family event in Swindon town centre.
Meeting up at the Town Hall in Regent Circus at 6.00pm, the lantern procession follows Regent Street, through the twinkling festive lights of the Christmas Market along Canal Walk and into Wharf Green where carols will be sung under an amazing 40ft Christmas tree.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

Festive Fun!
It’s a busy time for Santa and he needs a bit of help. So The Parade shopping centre have come to the rescue with an elf training school!
Budding little elves can visit the elf grotto situated in front of Debenhams where they can start their transformation into elves. First they will get rosy cheeks (painted on their faces) and an elf hat. Then they can have some fun with the elf treasure trail. Just follow the simple clues on the treasure trail form and visit stores in The Parade to collect pictures of Christmas gifts.
Once your apprentice elves have found all the treasure trail pictures, return to the grotto to collect a graduation certificate and be transformed into a fully-qualified elf!
Best of all, the event is completely
FREE!
For the grown-ups who spend more than £30 in The Parade there will be a free festively-wrapped tree decoration (T's & C's apply, see website for details).

Christmas Concerts
Enjoy this Christmas celebration with seasonal music performed by the choir and plenty of traditional carols for the audience to join in with too!

Gift Hunting
Taking place between 10.00 am-5.00pm on both Saturday and Sunday, the Christmas event will include over 40 market stalls, placed among the famous locomotives and GWR story-telling exhibition areas.
Christmas displays will include a wide range of unusual and hand-made gifts, confectionery and fayre. Santa will also be in his Grotto, accompanied by his helpful elves.

Something A Bit Different?
The 6th annual Swindon Santa Dash gives you the opportunity to do just that! This year, there’s a 5k Run and a lighter 2.5k Walk around Swindon’s picturesque Coate Water.
If you don't want to take part yourself, why not go along and support those crazy people who do - it’s sure to be lots of festive fun!

Panto Time
For 2012 the Wyvern Theatre Wyvern Theatre is thrilled to present the enchanting family adventure
Aladdin.
Audiences can be guaranteed to be entertained by one of the nation's favourites - Keith Chegwin - who plays a lead role in the production.
